Graduate of the piano class of the Secondary Music School in Szczecin and the Vocal and Dramatic Department of the Warsaw Music Academy, she made her debut at the Vienna Kammeroper. She was then engaged at the Neue Oper Wien and the Theater an der Wien, where at the invitation of UN General Secretary Kofi Annan she participated in the concert on the occasion of the human population reaching 6 billion along such renowned mezzo-sopranos as Fiorenzo Cossotto and Grace Bumbry.
Having won a competition in Germany, the singer performed the lead role in the world premiere of S. Matthus’ Kronprinz Friedrich opera, which was broadcast live by the German radio, a role for which she received excellent reviews. She toured Germany with the Kronprinz Friedrich opera, staged among others in Bayreuth and in the German Pavillion during the Hannover World EXPO exhibition. Alicja Węgorzewska-Whiskerd has participated in numerous international festivals and galas, including the prestigious folk music festival in Innsbruck, Donaufestwochen in Vienna and the opera gala on the occasion of 750th anniversary of the founding of the city of Breda. She has been co-operating with the opera theatres in Vienna, Berlin, Bayreuth and Monte Carlo, and has performed in prestigious concert halls such as Amsterdam’s Concertgebouw or Berlin’s Konzerthaus. The artist also recorded the soundtrack of the film Wiedźmin (The Witcher), for which she was awarded a Gold Disc.
